| By traveling through ecological reserves and protected
zones, a series of traces are recorded; paths that connect us with past
and present of the ranged areas. Flora and fauna, spectacular landscapes
and extraordinary places are visited by air, water and earth in a great
adventure, full of surprises. This serial is part of the "Gráfica
Global" - Global Graphics - project, a land artwork that has been
creating a layer of virtual drawings around the planet since 1997. These
designs are made by following the artist's displacement using the GPS -
Global Positioning System - technology, that allows a precise registration
of their movements, turning/converting them into lines. The planet's surface
is the base of these drawings; roads, lake shores, coasts, rivers may be
used, so the route is determined by them, or a free design may be done
through aerial and maritime space.
This land art project is being developed in America and Europe, with more
than 100.000 miles traveled since it began in 1997.
- The main concepts implied in the work are:
- Movement as a drawing
- Nature as a base
- The global implications of the information technologies involved
- The random
- The memory
- The fractals theory
In this project we use geographical exploration to underline
the relationship between the natural environment and its interpretation
by the first human societies. As a consequence, elements of biodiversity
are considered: flora, fauna and the remains of disappeared life forms.
There will also be an emphasis on concepts of geography, cartography, ecology,
volcanology, geology, paleontology, archeology, biology and physics, all
developed through the participation of specialists.
The project intends to set up an integral vision of the
traveled areas, transforming knowledge into an adventure; an adventure
that unfolds through the implementation of a work of art, simultaneously
realized with the study of the visited zone. |
